West Africa’s travel and tourism situation remains dire. Travel challenges within West Africa has become a major impediment to economic integration within the sub-region. Difficulty in traveling, multiple roadblocks, snail pace bureaucracy and intimidation at border posts has become a daily ritual traveler’s face as they move from one country to another: making useless the much-trumpeted ECOWAS’ integration by Political leaders in West Africa.
The project “WAIT” (West Africa Integrated Travel) is set to connect West Africa seamlessly and promote a joint marketing effort amongst Tourism Boards and Authorities in the sub-region. WAIT is also to draw attention to the relevant authorities and policymakers on the need to ease up travel blocks within the region.
WAIT seeks to provide a platform to increase awareness of West Africa’s tourism products and other related information. It will provide a platform for product research and Product Development.
WAIT will also be an avenue to link consumers with products and services across the sub-region and provide a joint platform for access to information, organise road shows, exhibitions, and other joint promotional efforts.

WAIT was launched at the Ariya 2017 event during the World Travel Market (WTM) in London with a follow-up WAIT conference in Accra, Ghana in March 2018.
